Delta 10 vs delta 8 is a comparison of two minor forms of THC. The number says where the molecule’s double bond sits: the eighth carbon, the ninth or the tenth. Delta-9 is the THC cannabis makes in quantity. Delta-8 and delta-10 occur only in traces, so the amounts in products are made from hemp CBD. People describe delta-8 as the more relaxing and delta-10 as the more alert of the two, and research on either is thin.

The University of Illinois’s Discovery Partners Institute explains the naming: delta indicates the location of a double bond in the molecule. Healthline notes that delta-8 and delta-10 have structures similar to delta-9 and are found in trace amounts in cannabis plants.
Which is stronger?
There’s no settled answer, and the sources contradict each other. The Illinois explainer reports that some literature puts delta-8 slightly below delta-9. GoodRx relays what people report: delta-10 feels more alert, delta-8 more relaxing. One treatment provider, Therapeutic Partners, says delta-10 has been reported to have almost double the psychotropic potency of delta-8, while sellers such as Pure Craft call delta-8 the more potent one. When sources disagree that flatly, the honest reading is that nobody has measured it well.
The cautions are better established. The FDA’s notice says delta-8 THC products are not approved by the FDA and may put you at risk, and a 2026 review in the medical literature lists hemp-derived delta-8, delta-9 and delta-10 among emerging toxicological concerns. Both compounds in products are made by chemical conversion, so what else is in the oil depends on the maker’s process and testing.
You rarely buy them separately

Before you buy hemp-derived THC. Two federal dates matter. On November 12, 2026 cannabinoids that the cannabis plant can’t naturally produce stop qualifying as hemp. On December 11, 2026 the rest of the new definition follows: hemp is measured by total THC, counting THCA and delta-8, with a cap of 0.4 mg of total THC per container in finished products. Both come from a law enacted on November 12, 2025. Plenty of states restrict these products today. We aren’t lawyers and this is general information, so check your state’s rules.
