A purple family tree
The line is unusually easy to follow. Purple Urkle, an old California strain believed to be a Mendocino Purps cut, was crossed with Big Bud to make Granddaddy Purple. Leafly and the seed companies we checked agree on that cross and on the breeder. GDP was then crossed with Larry OG to make Purple Punch, which Leafly calls a dessert strain.
Purple Punch kept going. Mimosa, Slurricane, Cherry Punch, Banana Punch and Wedding Crasher all have it as a parent, which makes GDP a grandparent to a good part of the modern menu. GDP is also behind Cherry Pie and Candyland.
