Most sellers describe HHC as the slightly stronger and more shelf-stable of the two. How they’re related
ACS Laboratory lays out the production line: hemp-derived CBD is converted to delta-8, and delta-8 is hydrogenated into HHC. Sunmed describes the chemical result. Delta-8 has a double bond at its eighth carbon; HHC has no double bonds, the gap filled with two extra hydrogen atoms. That’s the whole difference, and it’s why Recovered calls HHC more resistant to degradation.

Which is stronger?
Sellers line up on one side. Delta 8 Resellers says HHC gives most users a somewhat stronger high than an equivalent dose of delta-8, while adding the two aren’t drastically far apart. 3Chi calls delta-8 the milder, beginner-friendly option and HHC more energizing. Ivy Hall places HHC between delta-8 and delta-9.
WebMD doesn’t accept the premise. It says it’s unclear whether HHC is more potent than delta-8, that neither has been well studied, and that neither has an FDA-approved use. Those positions aren’t really in conflict. The first is what customers report; the second is what has been measured, which is very little.

The law is changing. Hemp-derived THC vapes have been sold under the federal hemp definition. A law enacted on November 12, 2025 redefines hemp by total THC, counting THCA and delta-8, and caps finished products at 0.4 mg of total THC per container. Most of it takes effect on December 11, 2026. A separate part, excluding cannabinoids the cannabis plant can’t naturally produce, takes effect on November 12, 2026.
