HHC vs THC is a comparison between cannabis’s main active compound and a lab-made relative of it. HHC, hexahydrocannabinol, is THC with extra hydrogen added, the same kind of step that turns vegetable oil into margarine. Cleveland Clinic says it’s thought to bring on a milder high than THC. What HHC is
WebMD describes HHC, sometimes written HXC, as chemically like delta-9 THC but semisynthetic: made in a lab from CBD taken from low-THC cannabis. ACS Laboratory gives the route, hemp CBD converted to delta-8 THC and then hydrogenated. Sunmed explains what that does to the molecule: where delta-8 has a double bond, HHC has none, the gap filled by two extra hydrogen atoms.
That saturation is why Leafwell names stability as the main difference. HHC keeps longer on a shelf than THC does.
How strong is HHC?

Read that table with the last row in mind. The 70 to 80% figure is repeated widely, but it comes from dispensaries, sellers and treatment-centre blogs, and none of the pages we read ties it to a controlled human study. Nothing But Canna points out a further wrinkle: there are two isomers of HHC, and researchers found that one of them, called 9R, dominates commercial products. Milder than THC is the fair summary. A precise percentage isn’t.

On price the two are close. The HHC pens work out at a median of $20 a gram, and state-market disposables at $22.50.

Legal status: in transition. A federal law enacted on November 12, 2025 rewrites the hemp definition around total THC, so THCA and delta-8 will count, and sets a ceiling of 0.4 mg of total THC per container for finished products. A later bill, H.R. 6500, moved most of that to December 11, 2026. It left one date alone: from November 12, 2026, cannabinoids the cannabis plant can’t naturally produce are excluded from hemp. State law may be stricter where you live, and in many states it already is. This isn’t legal advice.

What type of high does HHC give you?
Sellers describe it as mellower than THC. WebMD’s caution is more useful: it hasn’t been well studied.
Is HHC natural or synthetic?
Semisynthetic. It’s produced in a lab by hydrogenating cannabinoids made from hemp CBD.
