Two generations on one list
Split the twenty by age and you get two different kinds of plant. The classics are here because they’ve been on menus for decades: Northern Lights from the late 1970s, Jack Herer and White Widow from the Dutch seed trade of the 1990s, Sour Diesel, Durban Poison and Blue Dream. They are mostly sativa-leaning, and their lineages are landraces and first-generation crosses.
The newer names are dessert strains, nearly all descended from Girl Scout Cookies and Gelato. Permanent Marker was Leafly’s Strain of the Year for 2023 and Super Boof for 2024. Runtz is Zkittlez × Gelato, Wedding Cake is Triangle Kush × Animal Mints, and Apples and Bananas was bred in stages from Platinum Cookies, Granddaddy Purple, Blue Power and Gelatti. Most are rated balanced or indica-leaning.
Popular isn’t the same as available
Search demand and shelf depth don’t line up neatly. Blue Dream has both: 35 vapes from 18 brands. Pineapple Express has 19. But Wedding Cake, third on the list, has 2 listings here, and Runtz and Permanent Marker two each. Hype strains get searched before brands catch up with carts.
